The Incomplete Mission

Annual Mountaineering Trip 2007, a trip to Gunung Yong Yap during Raya holiday on 12/10, again, another unsuccessful trip. We have to return and exit after completing 30% of the journey when our teammate, CH’s body turned serious allergic signs after the wasps attack.

The Wasp Attack
Date: 12th Oct 2007 (Friday)
Time: Around 3pm – 3.30pm
Location: About 2 hours to camp site by moderate pace

I got the first stung on my right lap when we all stopped at the trail to get our raincoat. Initially I thought it just an ant, so I just shouted “Ouch…”

Suddenly, I felt the stung getting more all over my legs and arms; I turned around to brush off the insects. Guess what I saw?

A group of wasp flying out from the nest at a tree just beside me, they like an army group driving the helicopters ready to attack and already called for the war. The first stung I got was the warning ‘bullet’, now, they fired us using the machine guns madly.

“Tatatatatatataa…”
I was like hearing the sound of the helicopters take off, these armies were coming to attack us.
“Run! Bees Run!”

Whatever la, bee or wasp, they are the same family. I can’t really spell out the name of species during emergency.

So number of us sprinting on the trail in the jungle while the wasps chased like mad. After couple of ten meters of running, the enemies were cleared. We checked on our condition, just a mild hurt, but somehow CH is allergic to bees’ sting.

The symptoms of the allergy: red rashes over whole body, energy flatten, dizzy, faint.

Can’t proceed anymore, we must RETURN TO RESCUE!!!

Instruction from the captain:
“Kenny and CM, descend immediately fast and get ready the 4WD at the village.”

Both of us were justifying during running down the hill: We took almost 3 hours to ascend, so now we might have to take 1.5 hour to descend. Once we reached village, how to go out to Kg Raja which we sit in a 4WD in 30minute? Ok, we saw the villagers have motorbike, that would be a hope.

Finally we reached to the village in one hour, as we wished, Kenny went out to Kg Raja to get a 4WD by motorbike taking by a villager. So I thought to back to meet the rest of them with the guide who followed us downhill just now.

What The Guide
I found something wrong with the guide who came with me, his pace was slow and not following after a while until he was totally ‘missing’ without notice. At the moment I was waiting for him, I met the other guide who was suppose to lead one team down but my teammates were left very far behind from him. I was still somewhere around there to look for my guide before my teammates arrived. When I met my teammates, they told me not to back to jungle, they were far behind.

I almost wanted to scream, WHERE IS THE GUIDE??

Finally I found out the guide just left me and escape himself with the reason of ‘kaki sakit’.

The Evils
By the time I almost arrived to village, I heard the sound of motorbike, and Kenny was calling…

“Did you see my wallet?”
“Wallet? No.”

Something was wrong again. This is the most evil Orang Asli village I have ever seen…

Kenny dropped his wallet accidentally when he was on the bike, the villagers found and collected it. They refused to return unless Kenny ‘pay’ them RM150! The Penghulu even told us that “Kita orang baik, tak ambil apa apa, awak ada dua ratus lebih di dalam kita tak ada ambil…”

We were cheated by these evils.

The Rescue
Kam Meng carried his backpack and CH’s backpack downhill ahead of Boon Keat and Geok Wah who taking care of CH, his condition was slightly better but still like a drunker walking in the jungle.

Finally everybody returned to the village around 7:30pm safe and sound.

We Left Kenny Behind
We were happily to load all backpacks to the 4WDs, all people can’t wait anymore to jump on the jeeps ready to set off, and we left. A caller call to walkie talkie and shouted us to stop because he was not in the car yet!

What?? Oh my God, we left Kenny behind! The person who rushed here and there to help the team in the emergency but the dark hearted teammates just left him behind…

Boon Keat and Kam Meng quickly jumped down from the 4WD to meet him, and we confirmed that, Kenny did not cry! :P

Luckily, otherwise he has to walk for may be more than 1 hour in the dark to pass the logging trail, even when he got out to the highway, he has to hitch a car to Kg Raja cause he has only RM4 left in his wallet.

Poor CH and Kenny.

原以为土著应该是善良和无知的,原来并不是。市桧和有了一点点的"文明"。不错,进步了。

Kenny

We are all human afterall.

It seems OX annual trip will always be the most challenging trip. Percentage of fail is very high ;-)

Anyway, fails will bring us closer to success! There will be next time.

I recall HWL also allergic to bee stung rite? ;-) Next trip, must have anti-histamine along.
