Balik Kampong (Tour of KL-Kuantan)

It was Malaysia’s 50th Independence Day.
It was PCC Interstate 2007 riding to Penang.

But I did not join the cherish moment of Merdeka celebration, and I did not join the excitement of PCC Interstate too. I just did an ordinary trip back to my hometown Kuantan, by using extraordinary method.

Yes, we made it!
Hin Wai and I.

We cycled from the West, Kuala Lumpur, a city where we studied and working, to the East, Kuantan, a town where we grown, for 268 kilometers in two days, started from 31.08.2007 6.30am to 01.09.2007 3.50pm.

The route meant a lot to us, we had been using this route through and flow KL-Kuantan for years. After East Coast Express has been operating, the route became a history to us, and many of us from Kuantan.

Bentong, Karak, Lanchang, Mentakab, Temerloh, Maran, Sri Jaya, Gambang and finally Kuantan, these are the town that we must pass every time travel between KL and Kuantan. We used to be sitting in the car, but now, we were using our energy and pedaling on the bicycle to go through the same old route again.

We were speechless when we arrived at the bridge of Sg. Kuantan after the long tough ride, nothing compare to this cherish moment, nobody feels what we felt, because only us who can understand the meaning of this journey…

Again, congratulations Hin Wai and blueameba!

i remember the days too - checking out what color my shirt will turn into when we pass the genting tunnel, look forward to stopping at mentakab at the old dirty coffeeshop, then passing thru the temerloh bridge and see the river, and the dirty old toilet where the bus usually stops. then with maran which is always half way thru alredi and i will always remember to watch out for kg new zealand somewhere before the turning to tasik chini and of course the famous pao along the way and arriving at kuantan bridge too. ahh, yet another old memories of the old trunk road...
