When: 4 Nov 2006 (Saturday)
Where: Cameron Highland
Head Count: 17
Deascription: Gunung Irau is the 9th highest mountain in Peninsula Malaysia. It is very unique mossy forest compare to others because of the moist environment up there. The trail is muddy. Hikers can take 3 - 4 hours to reach summit.
Visited Gunung Irau in Cameron Highland on 4/11/2006 under the lead of Kam Meng, witnessed the very impressive mossy forest. The flora in Gunung Irau is very unique, besides the rich and various mossy plants, I also saw few species of fungi which only seeing them for the first time. One of them is the blue color mushroom, another one is a very tiny red mushroom with only 3mm tall.
According to Kam Meng, the trail is become wider, more routes have been created by human, and hence, the mossy habitat is getting smaller! This suppose a very serious matter, a climber should be responsible to maintain the natural of the forest instead of destroy it, but many climbers just tent to forget the best practices in mountaineering or has limited knowledge about mountaineering, and caused a lost to our dearest flora and fauna in the forest.
