Exciting March

It has been quite some times I didn’t put on my running gear and run seriously. The feel was simply the great and I miss running so much after last nite’s run. I was almost overdone and exhausted myself without enough rest. Human being supposes to listen to your body, and rest is for keep going further. That’s why my blog was kept static for few weeks.

I wasn’t too busy, but quite tired and life was filled by many excited outings these few weeks. Since the KLIM, followed by the Orange Run, 2 weekends in March were over with running events. Next, my weekends were occupied by climbing and cycling. All activities were too exciting and extremely exhausted, body used up a lot of energy and definitely already half dead until fully rest for few days.

I was in a climbing trip to Gunung Liang East/West on 18-19 of March, whereas 25 of March was having an extreme challenge on cycling where Hin Wai and me hit 3 famous hilly routes in a trip (Genting Sempah, Gohtong Jaya and Ulu Yam). Then the next day after cycling, I was going to Bukit Kutu with OXians.

I was so excited to share the memory with all my dear friends and it has been a very exciting March. I just hope I have more time and may the force be with me in order to tell you my story. I promise, I will share my pain and my happiness with you, provided if you willing to…

Happy Orange Run

Race: The Orange Run
Date: 12/3/2006
Time: 7.30 am
Venue: The Curve
Organizer: Boustead Petroleum Marketing Sdn. Bhd
Distance: 9km

Pre-race – The obstacle during Registration, Collection of T-shirt & bib
I was giving a hand to some OX frens to register for the run and collect the t-shirt & bib. Actually it already over the closing date when I realized the race. I made a call to the organizer and the organizer told me that it still open for registration, he also mentioned that I can register now and get the t-shirt on the spot. When I got there, NO, the t-shirt was not ready! So I submitted the registration and asked the officer whether can I get the t-shirt & bib the next day? He answered me, Oh, Yes! So I went to their office the next day AGAIN and expected to submit another registration and collect the t-shirt and bib. But when I got there, the officer told me, Oh, No! The bibs were not ready! What??? I shouted at the officer caused he gave me empty promise. I rushed from few kilometers away during lunch hour and he was just took this as granted! Of course I was so angry, rushing out during the lunch time but got nothing wasn’t a fun thing to do. So I went there for the 3rd time, then only I got everything successfully. (phew!)

Race day
It is free registration and provided a series of nice awards, no harm to try, I was just treated this as normal training as I was not ready for short distance run. Short distance run isn’t same to long distance run e.g. marathon, you need to run in fast pace from the beginning until the end, and this is called ‘TURBO’. This kind of running needs good stamina to achieve good performance. Me? A slow runner, no matter how pia also like a running tortoise :P

We met a lot of Pacesetters members joining the race. A lot means a lot lo. Really a lot ler…

I completed the run in 00:56:26, averagely 00:06:16 km/hr, a dropped performance indeed. The reason that I can think of is the hilly route. With this timing, I still managed to grab a consolation prize in Women Open who (guys, jealous leh?)

Congratulations to Phyllis, SJ, SL who won the cash award, they deserved the prizes. Also thanks Tey as supporter to snap photos.

Post-race
I was damn tired during the run, damn thirsty after reaching to the finishing point, damn hungry after the run… In fact I was damn damn dehydrated! It seemed like tougher than running a marathon (?!)

The event was held very successfully, I will rate it 8 stars out of 10 la :P
1. The t-shirt is nice, at least better quality and well designed compare to KLIM06’s t-shirt.
2. The starting/finishing area was concentrated but not too crowded.
3. Beside ice-cream, there were never lack of 100 plus, mineral water and free sample foods such as instant noodle, chocolate…
4. There were some fun and easy games with small token while waiting for the result.
5. Entry fee is free, somemore you get a RM3 petrol voucher ler!

I also don’t how I could collect 5 x RM3 petrol vouchers, beside 1 was mine, I think all others were given by Phyllis, plus the RM50 petrol voucher from the consolation prize, wow… I had total of RM65 petrol voucher… cool!

Enjoy the Gender Inequality
After today’s The Orange Run, I was just enjoyed one of the benefits of gender inequality. For the 1st time I see the light from this position. So, what was that?

Competitive in women category in sports always not as strong as men category, hence, the women can easily enjoy the awards and prizes in the race. I do hope to see more and more females involve in sports to enjoy the active and healthy lifestyle and to build up their confidence level.

I have been blaming that there are gender inequality in the society, one of the sources is female always the victim of criminals. I am definitely never feel good about it! That’s why I always encourage a lady to learn self-defense, and have more self-awareness, also hoping all ladies learn to be self-sufficient and to be strong and brave.

Ladies, build up the confidence level to face all difficulties and challenges in your life, do not give crimes a chance to target on us!

(hmm… how come a happy orange run can relate to a serious women’s talk one? hehehe…)

Kuala Lumpur International Marathon 2006 Report

Date: 5/3/2006 (Sunday)
Time: 5:00am
Venue: Dataran Merdeka

Pre-race
How was my life 1 week before the race? Look at these…

--> Worries and think negatively
Like old people, always suspect here pain there pain like going to die very soon… :P

--> Blur blur…
Have you ever tried to pour cold water to make a cup of coffee? Have you ever tried to answer the phone when phone alarm is triggered? Hahah.. that are what I were doing… :P

--> Target, target, and target
Mind was full of “sub-5”, “sub-5’, and “sub-5”. Football fans are makan bola, minum bola, tidur bola, but I was makan “sub-5”, minum “sub-5”, tidur “sub-5”… :P

--> Mindset, Spirit!
Samurai mindset? Having strong mindset to achieve the target even it has to lose my life (wah!)
Just enjoy and injury free? Yeah, this is what all the my friends’ advice… But my high spirit of achieving my target was overcome everthing!

--> Eat a lot
My colleagues were shock when they see me take so much of rice everyday for the lunch. I even ate more that a guy. Hope my stomach is back to shape now, if not, you will see a pig instead of ameba! hahaha

Race day
Alarm clock set at 2am.
Handphone alarm set at 2am.
Morning call by Chong Wah at 2am.
Finally, woke up at… 2am :D

Breakfast: 1 cup of Milo and 1 Roti Canai at home. 1 cereal bar on the way to Dataran Merdeka.
Toilet mission failed!

Depart from Shah Alam at 3am to SS2 to meet with Chong Wah, Rho Wen and Phyllis.

--> The kandang and the lambs
The Nissan Sunny accomplished its mission by bringing us to Dataran Merdeka on time. We had fun time taking photos, doing warm up in the 1 hour time before the race with Tey, Jason, PMs, Boon Keat, Boon Keat’s brother-in-law and Boon Keat’s brother-in-law’s brother-in-law. We only met Joey the babyKangaroo, Melcom and Richard after masuk kandung.

5am, we heard the gun shot, loud and clear. Time started to pass second by second. In race, every second counts! Every marathon runner like a little lamb just released from the kandang, all spread out and run, like run for the freedom…

--> The Strength and The Honor
Very soon, I saw Boon Keat put his right fist at his left chest and said ‘The Strength and The Honor’, then proof… disappeared from my eyesight. Right at the first mini roundabout, 7-10 men where standing side by side in front of the fountain… releasing the water. After 15 minutes, I never met with Phyllis again after she overtook me at this point. Rho Wen’s voice became slower and slower, I guess I was slowly and slowly ahead of her. Chong Wah still pacing with me, he was complaining that the plaster at one of his nipples was taken off. Opps.. that will be hurt! We met Joey and Melcom after 25 minutes, then we all running at our own pace.

--> Chong Wah finding plaster for his nipple
At 5km point, Chong Wah asked for a plaster from St. John on duty, but amazingly, they didn’t have any! So how, show half but cover half lo… so sexy until guys also shouting at him at the opposite of the road. After 30 minutes of running, body was fully heated, then I slowly increase my pace, Chong Wah was ahead of me.

At 10km point, I stepped on the mat, and heard the sound ‘bib…’ and the officer shouted ‘1hr 49s’, YES! It still within my target. I met up with Boon Keat and his brother-in-law, then afterward I didn’t see Chong Wah anymore, perhaps he stayed at 10km point asking a St. John gal to plaster his nipple :P Suddenly he appeared again at midway, then lost in the dark one more time.

--> KL traffic jam on Sunday 7am
Around 17-18km point, we were near Jalan Cheras in front of Stadium Badminton, it was about 7am. I pity the drivers the most, they had to stuck in the jam on Sunday 7 o’clock early in the morning. Pity the runners too, sucked too much of fame from the vehicles.

At 21km point, I stepped on the mat again and the chip recorded my time, it was 2:14:51, phew… still within my target. Suddenly I my pace going slightly faster, then overtook Boon Keat and brother-in-law :P But this cannot last long la, I started to feel tired already and looking for the 25km mark. I need water to take power gel which I already consumed 1 at 15km.

Eh… I met with Chong Wah again at 25km, I hardly talk, used hand signal to ask him forward while he was doing stretching at beside. Very fast he overtook me 1 or 2km after. I met with Jason somewhere around here too.

--> Toilet bully said ‘I tak bawa duit la’
Around 27km, we passed by Dataran Merdeka and turned into Jalan Raja Laut. My KLIM performance started to destroy here. My stomach gave a red signal, I was thinking it should be fine, it might cause by I didn’t go toilet before running. Okie, I went into a public toilet near SOGO, everything went smoothly, no lausai. When I came put, the counter lady asked for 20 cents. My expression was :O I said ‘I tak bawa duit la’, then just ran away… like a toilet bully, used the toilet without paying :P

After the toilet time, I was very behind of Chong Wah and Jason. Damn! Need to increase my pace in order to catch up with them again. Boon Keat and me were like Tom and Jerry, chasing each other along the journey. Yo… where is the 30km mark???

--> Lausai
30km mark always a critical point for all marathon runners. The true challenge of marathon starts here and you are at high risk of hitting the wall here. My stomach really attacked me with machine gun liao, so sad until I don’t want to write more about it. You should know what happen and the history just replayed. Legs already so tired, now diarrhea somemore, it was really suffering from here onwards.

Due to the brain was lack of oxygen, negative thinking kept attacking me. The devil said ‘GIVE UP’, the angel said ‘TARGET: SUB-5’. When I came to 35km mark, stomach really cannot tahan and there were no mobile toilet, and no petrol station… so disappointed. I didn’t take power gel anymore, I suspected the diarrhea was caused by the gel. The last gel I taken was at 25km, no choice, I have to tahan until finish without any power booster. I started to stopped and walked at 36km for 100 plus meters, checked my time, it was just 3 hours plus, perhaps I still manage to meet my target?

--> The Power of Ignore
At the last 4km mark, the time was 4hr 28m. I still could make it within my target if I kept running in 8min/km. Here I discovered The Power of Ignore. When the devil started to persuaded me to give up my target, I ignored. When my legs signaled me to stop, I ignored. Tom met with Jerry at last 1km.

--> The Smile of Victory
The feeling was soooooo GREAT when I saw Dataran Merdeka. I was speeding from the straight line to the finishing line. Here I got the nick name of ‘flying ameba’. I was flying to the finishing line, not crossing :P I presented The Smile of Victory to Tey who standing under the sun for 1 hour to snap our finishing photo. Tey was so exited and point me the time, it was start at figure ‘4’. Yes, I met my target, I did it below 5 hours, it was 4:54.

--> After crossing the finishing line
1st, made sure I got my finisher medal.
2nd, iced Milo.
3rd, returned the Champion Chip and got back my RM20.
4th, toilet. I was sitting in the toilet for about half and hour. They must be thinking I was flushed away…
5th, enjoyed foot relieve at mini iced pool with recovery drink sponsored and prepared by Tey.

Will I perform better if I don’t get diarrhea?
Well. I will tell you the answer when I take part in the next Marathon.

KLIM Count Down: 2 Days - Are you ready?

Today is my last day of training, after that will act like a pig, eat and sleep. Hahaha
I was having a good Yoga lesson last nite, not too hard, not too easy, it was just nice and relax. The yoga stretching makes me slept better at nite, and body was fully stretched like being massage. Most of the time I was the massager and that’s why I need to know how to self-massage :D

I woke up at 6am today, then put on my full marathon gear with the vest, short, sock, running shoe and waist pouch that I’m going to wear at the race day. I just jogged for about 20 minutes to sweat myself and make the last call to my legs muscle.

My condition was good, stomach muscle pain is recovered. For your information, I was having serious muscle pain at my stomach (inner muscle ok!) during my last training. I was forced to stop running due the severe pain. In fact this was not my 1st time having this problem, normally I can overcome it by slowing down my pace, and have some deep breathes. It just didn’t work this time, so I must stop or else I might be in big trouble for my next run. I was so upset and immediately asked for rescue! As a conclusion, it might caused by sudden fast pace after not running for few days and without proper body warming up.

I also did not feel any knee pain during running. I was quite worry last weekend when I felt the knee pain during hiking to Gunung Berembun with Kam Meng at Cameron trip. I kept this to myself and didn’t tell anyone about it including the trip organizer, Boon Keat. I think it wasn’t serious so I purposely ignore it :P

In fact I feel the pain now when I was walking or even just sitting. It hurts especially when I drive my manual car and walking with high heel shoe! I foresee knee pain after marathon…

Body condition is the only thing that I’m not managed to control, I have no idea what going to attack me at the race day. But I can control my mindset! I’m a bit confused, what kind of mindset suppose to have? Samurai mindset? Or Injury free mindset?

I can’t share with you about Samurai mindset or injury free mindset now until I experience it on Sunday. Stay tuned!

p/s: more pictures and report coming soon for my Cameron hiking trip to G. Berembun and G. Cantik last weekend (25-26/2/06).

KLIM Count Down: 3 Days

3 days to marathon race day. It’s the honeymoon period now before the race day. I had reduced my mileage training and started carbo loading for the past 1 week and now, rest a lot :P

BODY may hurt but SPIRIT never die!
FEAR isn't a factor but MINDSET is!

Put all negative thoughts aside, preparing my mindset for the race day and…
Cross the finishing line with the Smile of Victory!

GOOD LUCK to all runners.
See you at the race day this Sunday.
