Excellent Sports Spirit - shared by wanlin

On Monday, I went to GlenEagles for blood donation. After coming back to office, I felt very tired.

On Tuesday, woke up at 6.30 am in the morning and went to the basketball court and did my warm-up exercise. Then, just started my badminton footwork training. I think badminton is still my favorite hobby. A runner told me that I should focus only on running. But, I think I still love running, swimming and badminton all 3 together. I am not a greedy person, but, I can't stop myself from falling in love with all these exercise.

At 5.30 p.m. I left the office and rushed to Kg Pandan for sprint running exercise. This time, I learn the lesson. Arrived there early and quickly did my warm-up exercise. It was raining but at 6.30 pm, sharp, sprint training started. Unlike last Thursday, we went for more longer distance.

warm-up:
2000 m

training:
4 x 400 m
3 x 800 m
1 x 1200 m
1 x 1600 m <--

But, I missed the last 1600 m because I need to rush back for badminton in Stadium Juara. The coach didn't sound happy because I left earlier. He advised me not to go badminton because both running and badminton are hard exercise. He worried if I continue playing badminton after running, I might hit sport injuries. At 9.00 p.m. I reached Juara Stadium. The players already started the game. Without warm-up, just joined them for the game. Finished the game at 10.00 p.m. and went back home with a tired body.

Today later in the evening, I will go to Pantai Hill Park for swimming. Need to meet up Say Li also to get the Christmas concert tickets. Last Sunday, I swam at 3K swimming pool. I tried to do sprint swimming with a distance of 50m. But, I really can't take it. My heart beat was extremely fast, can't even breath at the ending line. So, just swam in a normal pace for 500m. Then, tried another few rounds of 50m swim. But, still can't take it. I think my muscle is still not strong enough for sprint swimming. Nowadays, spend time doing weight training, focusing more on back muscle. I think it will take 1 year for me before I can feel comfortable in sprint swimming. But, never mind, this motivate me to continue exercise :-)

Any one knows what are the disadvantages of blood donation? I am looking for scientific information about the disadvantages of blood donation. Any websites or links are welcomed, preferably, medical websites. Thank you.

Less people talk about disadvantage of blood donate. However, this case is depend on different human being. Mostly major problem occur to those are underweight, pregnant mother, elder age, etc... but for normal aldult like us, the most disadvantage should be infection during or after donation. mainly belong to bacteria infection. Pls take care of ur wound after donate and choice clean enviroment prior to donation.

A lot of people ignore about medical advise. such as carry out heavy execise after donation, drive long distance, drink heavy alcohol... This event could lead to even more serious side effect.

I was rejected by the nurse when i attempted to donate my blood due to under weight. This made me extremely sad and down for few days, i sms Tien who was in Kuching undertaking his Medicine degree and told him how sad i am.

Few days later, i received an sms from him, saying 'I've donated my blood on behalf of you'....

Best wishes to him. He is going to graduate soon and i'll have to call him Doctor Tien :)

I never have negatif impact lah..even not enough sleep,no eat..hehehe..!!

For u info,I also dam like badminton,but almost give up,may be one day play with you for fun...need to learn a lot from u.

I don't have any negative impact. But, just want to find further information. The doctor gave me some medical advice because I am a frequent blood donator. But, I don't understand what she said. She used a lot of medical terms.

What hemoglobin level, pH, regeneration of blood cell and etc... Just curious what will happen if an unhealthy person goes and donate blood. I have once will rejected because my hemoglobin level is low, but, I still don't understand what is the scientific benchmark to decide whether a person is qualified for blood donation.

Mr. Tey, I play with your colleagues lah... Ling Long and Shiang Yi. They told me that you like to play badminton also.

U more good in single or double ah ? Must learn from u....me too old liao...hv to slow-slow restart if want play badminton.

I know them from Boon Keat's ex-housemate, Jia Zen. I play every Tuesday. They have another session on Friday also, both at Stadium Juara.

I prefer double, single needs more energy. My footwork is not so good.

FYI

Hemoglobin is something used to transport oxigen in blood. If ur Hb level is low, u may have high possibility faint after donation. pH is the acid/alkaline standard, used to check ur blood quality.

Regenaration of blood cell is the recovery speed for ur body in produce red blood cell.

After blood donation, all the composition in our blood is reduced. So, our body may can't function at best perfomance (u won't feel it if not carry out heavy duty work). For those who naturally lack/less of some blood composition, they will make themselve in danger after blood donation. For normal person, if they can't recover the composition in certain period, they are in high risk too, no recommend in blood donation
